I purchased this book at a recent “Youth-At-Risk” conference to see if I could get some ideas on working with families who have loved ones in prison. What I received from this book was so much more. The book is easy to read, the info straight forward and very informative. I now have a much better understanding of the full impact of incarceration to a family. Both Terrence and Ms. Bettye share openly and honestly about their struggles and provide mulitple ways to help families also going through this scenario. In addition though, I received insight into my own son’s struggles growing up which is allowing new avenues of discussion between the two of us. I have shared this book with him. A powerful read!

I finished Book One and Book Two and only two words come to mind STRENGTH and LOVE.

Bran, you are truly the strongest person I know. I always thought of you as being very strong but now I know without a doubt that the strongest part of you is your heart. I fully understood every word and emotion you expressed in this book.

Please tell Terrence that I’m soooooooooooo proud of him!!!! Not only for what he overcame and who he is now but for his willingness to share his story to help others. He is a living example of how you shouldn’t let your past dictate your future.

Y’all are a POWER 💥💥couple and I can’t wait to see where this book takes you. I’m glad I’ve got my autograph copy! 😉

    LOVE Y’ALL!!!!!!!! 😘

Hi Brandee, Finished the book!! I learned a lot! You know I don’t get in people’s business including family unless I’m let in so I really didn’t know the whole story. I think Terrence is very brave and bold for telling his story which is your story. I’ve known you’ve always been strong but you are much stronger than I knew. You are a true example of Black Girl Magic and a Strong Black Woman. This book should be required reading for sociology and criminal justice students and even High School English classes. I hope you, Terrence, and Bettye can get some colleges and secondary schools to pick it up. Love

I seldom find myself reading any books for about the 20 years except The Bible and/or books and commentaries related to The Bible.
From a young child I have always been an avid reader, especially of books which inform, enlighten, and overall educate in needed areas. Moreover, I have not recommended the reading of any books except the Bible, The Color Purple and perhaps one or two other books, and my reason for not recommending is because everyone’s appetite for reading material differs vastly….But now I find myself reading a book that has captivated and held my interest, bought me to tears and has me “Highly Recommending” it as a “Must Read”!!!

That book is “Doing Time With My Son” authored by Bettye Blaize and Terrence White…..I know, I know, some will say “Oh Bettye is a “Disciple” in her Church and they are Best Friends”, granted that’s true, and Bettye allowed me to host her and Terrence’s Book Signing at Called To Action Church and the turnout was overwhelming, but none of that played a part in my decision to recommend this book , which is phenomenal in the way it speaks to the very depths of Soul Searching as it pertains to coming to grips and the reality of what it’s like to deal with an incarcerated child, grandchild or other family member who may be or have been a part of the prison system.

I truly “Thank” Bettye for insisting that I constantly communicate with my incarcerated grandson through letters and cards.(Note: Many Penal Institutions will not allow you to send cards any longer)
From the Foreword by Dr. LaMarr Darnell Shields and throughout, I believe you will know why I recommended this book.

Thanks Bettye and Terrence for sharing and “TO GOD BE THE GLORY!!”
